Get started
Welcome to Wren TV
Wren TV is a fast, ad-free personal media server. These docs cover watching, running a server and building on it.
Wren TV plays your movies and shows exactly as they were made. Dolby Vision and Atmos pass through untouched, and the server only transcodes when a device really can't play the file. It runs as one small program on Docker, Linux, macOS or Windows, and you watch in your browser at watch.wrentv.com or in the apps.
There are no ads, no rentals and no telemetry. Your server, your files, your watch history.
What to read first
I want to watch something someone shared with me. Sign in (or create a Wren TV account) with the email address you were invited at, in the web player. Shared servers appear on their own.
I want to run my own server. Start with the quick start. It takes you from nothing to playing a movie in about ten minutes. Then read how Wren TV works to understand what talks to what.
I want the app for my TV, phone or Mac. See the apps: Android TV, iPhone and iPad and Mac.
I'm building something on Wren TV. The client API covers browsing and playback. The integration API lets services manage libraries and receive webhooks.
