Apps
Android phones and tablets
Install Wren TV on an Android phone or tablet, sign in, download for offline, and watch Live TV.
Wren TV for Android runs on phones and tablets with Android 8.0 or later. It's laid out like the iPhone app: a Home page with search at the top, your libraries, Live TV, downloads, and a full-screen player. For a TV, use Wren TV for Android TV instead.
Install
The app isn't on the Play Store yet, so you install the APK yourself. You only do this once: installing a newer APK the same way updates it and keeps you signed in.
On your phone, open this link in Chrome (or your usual browser):
text
https://github.com/LTAGROUP/WrenTV/releases/latest/download/WrenTV-Android.apkWhen the download finishes, tap Open. The first time, Android asks you to allow installs from your browser: tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, then go back.
Tap Install, then Open. You can delete the APK from your downloads afterwards.
If Google Play Protect warns that it doesn't recognize the app, choose Install anyway. That's because the app isn't on the Play Store yet.
From a computer with Android's platform tools and USB debugging on, you can instead run:
bashadb install -r WrenTV-Android.apk
Sign in
Open Wren TV and sign in with your Wren TV account, or create one. If you were invited to someone's server, use the email address the invite went to. The app opens your server by itself, or asks which one if you can use several. More → Switch Server changes it later.
If your server isn't linked to an account, choose Connect to a server by address and type its address, like
192.168.1.20 or a web address.
Getting around
- Home starts with a rotating banner, then Continue Watching, My Watchlist and the rest of your rows. The search bar at the top searches your libraries and, on servers that stream, everything on TMDB.
- Movies and TV Shows (or Library, on a server without streaming) browse by genre and sort order.
- Live TV appears when the server has channels. Search looks across every channel and what's on; tap a channel to watch, or tap the info button for its schedule.
- Downloads and More hold your downloads, watchlist, collections, playback languages and account.
- Long-press any poster for more: play from the beginning, go to the show, mark it watched, or change your watchlist.
A title's page has Play (or Resume), Start Over, the trailer, Watchlist, Mark Watched and Download, the version, audio and subtitle tracks, the cast, and More Like This.
The player
The player turns the phone sideways and fills the screen. Tap to show the controls: skip back or ahead 10 seconds, drag the timeline, and change the version, audio or subtitles from the top right. Skip Intro, Skip Credits and Up Next appear when the server knows where they are. Back closes the player.
In Live TV, the arrows flip channels and the list button picks one from the list.
Downloads
Tap Download on a movie or episode, or Download Season next to the season picker, to keep a copy on the phone. Follow, pause and remove them under Downloads. They play with no connection, and when you open the app offline the sign-in screen offers Open Downloads. See downloads.
