Running a server
First run and claiming
Choose between Wren TV accounts and local accounts, then claim the server or create its owner.
A new server has no owner yet. How you set it up depends on which kind of accounts it uses.
Choose an account mode
Wren TV accounts (supabase) | Local accounts (local, the default) | |
|---|---|---|
| Sign in with | Your Wren TV email and password | A username and password stored on this server |
| watch.wrentv.com and the apps | Yes | No: use the server's web app at :32500 |
| Share by email | Yes | No: create users by hand |
| Automatic HTTPS addresses | Yes (remote access) | No |
| Works with no internet | Sign-in needs the internet | Yes |
Most people want Wren TV accounts. Local accounts suit a server that never leaves your home network, or one you don't want linked to any outside service.
Choose before you add other people: accounts don't move between the two modes.
Wren TV accounts
Set the account mode and the Wren TV account service's address. With Docker, add these to environment::
yaml - WRENTV_AUTH_MODE=supabase
- WRENTV_SUPABASE_URL=https://buycndonhmcafzzcvmgu.supabase.co
- WRENTV_SUPABASE_PUBLISHABLE_KEY=sb_publishable_vNiXbucy_8L_RQBFPoBPvA_HNZv1i15
Or set them in wrentv.yaml:
yamlauth:
mode: supabase
supabase:
url: https://buycndonhmcafzzcvmgu.supabase.co
publishable_key: sb_publishable_vNiXbucy_8L_RQBFPoBPvA_HNZv1i15
The publishable key is public by design: every account table is protected by row-level security, and servers check access themselves. Restart the server after changing these.
Claim the server
Find the claim code in the server's log. It looks like
K7QX-3MPA:bash
docker logs wrentv 2>&1 | grep claim_codeOn Linux, use
journalctl -u wrentv | grep claim_code. The code is also saved inwrentv.yamlasauth.supabase.claim_codeuntil the server is claimed.Open
http://<your-server>:32500, sign in with your Wren TV account (or create one), and enter the code.
The server is now yours. It appears at watch.wrentv.com and in the apps, and starts publishing its addresses. The claim code stops working once it's used.
Claiming with a different account
Only the owner can claim a claimed server again (for example to rotate its secret). To start over with another
account, stop the server, delete server_id and server_secret under auth.supabase in wrentv.yaml, and start it
again. It prints a new claim code.
Local accounts
Open http://<your-server>:32500 and create the owner's username and password. That account is an admin. Then add
other people under Manage → Users. See Users and sharing.
You can also create the owner from the command line:
bashcurl -X POST http://localhost:32500/api/setup/owner \
-d '{"username":"me","password":"a-long-password"}'
